The native New Zealand falcon is on the brink of extinction and is now thought to be rarer than the kiwi.
Continuing to decline around New Zealand, this beautiful bird now needs our help to ensure its ongoing survival, or we may see the species become extinct within our lifetime.
By establishing the Brancott Estate™ Living Land Fund, supported by a $1 donation from each and every bottle sold from a dedicated range of wines (available in NZ only), we’re proud to be assisting the regeneration of native falcon populations. The fund will directly benefit the Marlborough Falcon Conservation Trust, formed to conserve the New Zealand falcon in the region. Be sure to check back soon for an update on our progress.
Recently, we've also donated radio tracking equipment to help with research of the falcon and are in the process of insulating more than 40 transformers that have been known to cause falcon fatalities.
Falcons are effective at ensuring a natural balance is maintained with the population of non-native small birds – a population that continues to grow with the increased availability of food due to the expansion of vineyards. The above initiatives are therefore of mutual benefit to both the falcons and our thankful winemakers.
